What happens ones I finish my studies?

.

Once a student completes a degree, diploma or trade qualification as the result of two years of full time study at an Australian educational institution, they need to establish whether they have sufficient points to enable them to lodge an application for permanent residence. The current pass mark is 120 points.

Do I have to apply for TR immediately after my studies even if my student visa didn’t expire?

.

There may be no need to apply for a Graduate Skilled Temporary (GST) visa unless their student visa expires very soon after course completion and there is insufficient time to allow the student to obtain all the documentation and information required for the permanent residence application. Students are able to lodge their application for permanent residence provided they have evidence of lodging an application for assessment of qualifications. When they have a receipt from the assessing authority they can lodge their application, this is frequently very soon after course completion. Of course certain other criteria must be met as well at that time.

If students are unable to lodge their permanent residence application for some time due to delays in obtaining the necessary information and documentation, it may be necessary to lodge an application for a Graduate Skilled Temporary visa to keep them in Australia lawfully while they are obtaining the required documentation and information. They must at all times be aware of the date of expiry of their student visa and the need to have a visa that keeps them in Australia lawfully.

How Fast I Should Apply For Pr After My Studies To Be eligible for work experience exemption?

.

To be eligible for the work experience waiver a student must lodge an application for permanent residence within six months of completing course requirements. Please note from date of completing course requirements and not date of graduation.

What are the requirements for qualifying for work experience Bonus points while studying?

.

To be eligible for 5 points for Australian work experience the student must be able to evidence six months paid employment, in a skilled occupation on the list for which they are qualified, for a minimum of 20 hours a week. Please note they must evidence a minimum of 20 hours but are not allowed to evidence additional hours unless their course was not in session at that time.

What kind of work should I do for qualifying for bonus points while studying?

.

Refer 4 above. To be eligible they must undertake work, which they are qualified to do in an occupation, which is on the skilled occupations list.

Is there any minimum salary that I should earn for qualifying for bonus points?

.

The employment must be paid employment and should reflect the number of hours they are claiming they are working.

If I work for more than 20hrs per week during Uni holidays, am I still eligible for bonus points under work experience?

.

Yes, provided their course was not in session.

What else can I do to get eligible for that additional 5 points?

.

Lodge $100,000 in a Government approved bond for one year or Evidence completion of a degree which is equivalent to an Australian Bachelor’s Degree in a language on the community language list or become an accredited NAATI level III interpreter or translator one way from their native language into English or English into their native language or Australian work experience as detailed above.

How long can I get TR after my studies if I am not eligible for PR?

.

Students can lodge an application for a Graduate Skilled Temporary visa, which will keep them lawfully in Australia for six months from date of course completion. They will need to indicate on the form they intend to lodge a permanent residence application or an SIR visa Students can seek sponsorship for a position with an Australian company or organization for up to four years Students can apply for a visitor visa providing they can evidence they genuinely wish to be a visitor and have no intention of working and have sufficient funds to support themselves during the term of the visitor visa If a student has been in a de-facto relationship with an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen or an eligible New Zealand citizen and has evidence to substantiate this, they may be eligible to lodge a spouse application onshore If a student marries an Australian citizen or permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen (if their culture does not allow/encourage living together in a de-facto relationship or living together prior to marriage) they may be eligible to lodge a spouse application onshore If a student has received sponsorship by a participating State or Territory for a Skilled Independent Regional visa, they may be eligible this visa if they meet all criteria. This is a provisional residence

Do I have to go out of the country if my PR application fails or can I apply for a TR under graduate visa?

.

If an application for permanent residence is not successful, when notified by DIMIA the letter should allow the applicant 28 days to leave Australia. Within that period of time they can lodge an application for which they are eligible which would not include a Graduate Skilled Temporary visa.

My passport is expiring soon, how do I transfer valid student visa to my new passport?

.

Just take your new passport into a DIMIA office and ask them to evidence the student visa in your new passport.

If I get a valid job offer after studies, do this add up any points to my PR application?

.

Only if your occupation is an occupation on the Migration Occupations in Demand list and the prospective employer can satisfy the criteria for this (see 14 below).

If it is, what are the conditions?

.

You must have a job offer in writing for full time employment in Australia in your nominated occupation from an organization that have employed at least 10 persons on a full time basis for the 24 months immediately prior to date of lodging your permanent residence application.
