- Vocational Education And Training (VET)
VET, functioning under the state governments and territories, is the single provider of vocational education and training in the skills needed in modern economy. It runs practical and career-oriented competency development programmes at recognised institutions and workplaces. The graduates passing out from VET institutions are exceptionally skilled workers and highly employable as they have achieved the desired industry competency standards. Courses are flexible and could be pursued through multiple pathways. It allows people to move from one level of education, and workplace too, to another.

Higher Educational Institutions In Australia There are four types of higher educational institutions in Australia. They are Universities, Other Self-accrediting Higher Education Institutions, Non-University Higher Education Institutions, and Religious and Theological Institutions.
The governments mostly fund universities but there are a few in the private sector too. The finance comes from the Federal as well as State governments. The universities run self-accrediting courses in major established disciplines and newly developing disciplines. The faculties involve themselves in research and development of their fields along with their classroom teaching activities.
Self-accrediting Higher Education Institutions are institutions, which run their own courses. They are highly recognised and reputed in the job market.
Courses offered by the Non-University Higher Education Institutions, and Religious and Theological Institutions are not self-accredited. The accreditation bodies of State or Territory administer the function. They may also offer courses, which are not accredited by any relevant higher education bodies. They can offer degrees like Masters, Bachelors, and Diplomas. |

Foundation Studies Foundation courses are generally of one-year duration. They are available to help overseas students bridge any gap in their ‘foundation’ knowledge, as required by various Australian Institutions. These courses are organized on discipline basis, i.e., there are different foundation courses for arts and science streams.
These courses are very attractive for overseas students because universities will keep a provisional place open for you. Once you graduate at home with the required grades, you can immediately go on to join the course of your choice in the university. |

English English is the official language of Australia – including all Higher Education institutions. To be successful here, one requires functional level of command of English.
Competence in English is essential not just to do justice to the course. It is also vital to personal success in an English-speaking world.
Competency in English is one of the compulsory requirements of admission into Australia. You will have to prove your ability during your visa interview. Your achievement in the IELTS Test proves this linguistic ability. In Australia, IELTS score is a preferred English assessment score. It is recognised throughout the commonwealth – including the universities. (In some cases TOEFL score may accepted as a proof of one’s ability in English language)
To ensure that international students perform well in their courses, many English language courses are available to them. These courses are available to be taken by students before the beginning of the university course to brush up their competence in the basics and improve in weak areas.
The courses like General English, English for Special Purposes, Vacation Courses, and Examination Preparation are available in English help centres generally attached with universities and higher education institutions. These institutes are called English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS).The course duration varied between 1 and 3 months. The courses start quite frequently to cater to students need. In fact, if an international student score less marks in IELTS, reported in bands, while overseas, they still can continue with their visa process. They would have to complete some of the required regular courses in ELICOS prior to joining in their respective university courses. For more information, you can contact the university where you want to join, in the case you get less marks in the IELTS test. |

Quality Assurance The Quality Assurance in Australian Higher Education is the joint responsibility of the Federal Government, State Government, and Territorial Government, universities and accrediting bodies.
The Quality Assurance in higher education works in the paradigm of granting of State and Territories accreditation to the institutions based on the National Protocols for Higher Education Approval Processes and set standards. The Federal Government at Canberra monitors quality, performance data, and research plans of the universities and accordingly funds them. Universities are responsible to maintain strict academic standards on an ongoing basis. The Australian Universities Quality Agency and also the State and Territory accreditation authorities audit the universities against quality standards and guidelines.
The universities are autonomous in Australia. They are expected to follow quality assurance and peer assessment processes. The external examination of higher degrees and the involvement of professional bodies in the accreditation of courses further improve the standard of education imparted. The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) has been established to protect and promote the quality of Australian education and training. The AQF includes agreed national guidelines for all the three sectors of education, viz., schools, vocational education and training, and higher education sectors; registers of national bodies which can accredit and issue qualifications; and the protocols for issuing qualifications. The quality of the courses offered by the institutions listed in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Register is very high. |
